WINDS CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE AS IRMA WEAKENS AND MOVES AWAY
ALL TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS DISCONTINUED FOR THE AREA
CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
STORM INFORMATION:
At 2 PM EDT, all tropical storm warnings for east central Florida have
been discontinued.
Initial reports indicate substantial wind damage and flooding in
numerous locations across east central Florida. Due to widespread heavy
rains between 6 to 10" (locally higher), several rivers and streams are
running high across parts of the area. Standing water over some
roadways and along the banks of creeks and streams will remain a
concern over the next day or two.
Residents and visitors should remain cautious after the storm, and
continue to follow the advise of local officials.
This is the final Hurricane Local Statement that will be issued by the
National Weather Service Forecast Office in Melbourne, Florida. For
weather information for the east central Florida area, visit
www.weather.gov/melbourne. The latest information on Irma can be found
on the National Hurricane Center's website at www.nhc.noaa.gov.
WIND:
Little to no impacts are anticipated at this time across east central
Florida.
OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
Continued high surf will combine with significant beach erosion from
Hurricane Irma to produce potential for minor coastal flooding around
the time of high tide this afternoon and again overnight tonight.
EVACUATIONS:
Do not return to evacuated areas until it is safe. Listen for the all-
clear signal from local authorities.
OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:
Those who rode out the storm away from their home or business are
likely anxious to return. However, allow some time for work crews to
make a clear path for emergency vehicles. Downed power lines and
trees may be blocking roads and flood waters may have washed out or
overspread sections of key travel routes. Traffic lights may also be
out of service.
Do not go sightseeing within impacted communities simply to observe
storm damage. Sightseers can interfere with the timeliness of
rescuers and first responders to needlessly jeopardize lives.
If using a generator, avoid carbon monoxide poisoning by following
instructions by the manufacturer. Make sure that the generator is run
in a well ventilated space.
