Experimental forecast model maps for Cyclone Evan
GFS
This animated image was created manually from the raw GFS data available on the
NCEP web site
The black contours are MSLP (mean sea level pressure) - in general, the more black circles around a cyclone, the more intense it may be (more circles = lower pressure).
The colors indicate surface wind speeds.
ECMWF
Note that this image is in UTC time whereas the GFS image is in NZDT time. To calculate NZDT from UTC time, add 13 hours to the UTC time.
This animated image was created manually from the images available on the
ECMWF website
Unlike the GFS model, a very limited amount of raw data from the ECMWF is available for free.
MSLP contours are in black (see GFS note about MSLP)
The colors indicate "wind speed on the 850-hPa isobaric surface, which is around 1.5km above sea level (yellow/green shading labelled in m/s)"
